LONDON — A man who drugged at least 48 men and made films as he raped them — and is suspected of having attacked about 140 more — was sentenced to life in prison on Monday by a Manchester, U.K., court.
Reynhard Sinaga, 36, was found guilty of routinely heading out in the early morning hours to find drunken young men as they left nightclubs and offering them a floor to sleep on or more alcohol. Once in his home, he drugged them and raped them while they were unconscious, filming the incidents on his mobile phone.
It is the largest rape prosecution case ever in Britain. Authorities believe that he assaulted about 195 men, and that they have not been able to identify 70 of the victims whose attacks were recorded.”
Most of the men left his flat never having any idea they had been raped, though he sometimes kept their wallets or watches as trophies.
It is believed he used GHB, also known as liquid ecstasy, to sedate them.
Sinaga was caught when one of his victims woke during an attack, grabbed Sinaga’s phone and took it to police.
Sinaga claimed during his trial that the other men had been helping him fulfill a sex fantasy by playing dead during sex. But prosecutors said that was “preposterous,” since some of the footage showed the victims snoring.
The court found him guilty of 136 counts of rape, 13 counts of sexual assault, eight counts of attempted rape and two counts of assault by penetration.
He had already received a life sentence in June for convictions from two previous trials.
