Police officers’ weekly pay in some regions may not go as far as you might expect. An area’s cost of living makes an impact on police officer lifestyles--everything from the types of housing officers can afford to where they shop for their families. Gov1 determined which states give policemen the most miles for their salaries.

Methodology:

• We looked at the affordability of each state by analyzing the average costs of daily expenses like food, rent or mortgage, utilities and other needs using Missouri Economic Research and Information Center Cost of Living Data. New Mexico cost of living data was unavailable. First place is most affordable.
• We also factored in Bureau of Labor Statistics salary data.
