AURORA, Colo. — A Colorado police chief is reaching out to the transgender community after President Trump said the military wouldn’t allow them to serve anymore. Specifically, transgender applicants are welcome on his force.
Police Chief Nick Metz said in a tweet Thursday that if the U.S. military doesn’t want transgender members serving, they’re welcome to apply for jobs within the department.

Trump tweeted Wednesday that transgender people would no longer be allowed to serve in any capacity because the military “must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”
In a memo to all military service chiefs, commanders and enlisted military leaders, Marine Corps Gen. Joseph Dunford said “no modifications” would be made to the current policy for now, the Associated Press reported. He added all military personnel will continue to be treated with respect.
