The Ark-Tex Council of Governments announced text 911 service is now available in Bowie, Cass, Morris, Red River and Titus Counties for At&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile customers.
According to KSLA News, text 911 messages are sent to county dispatchers. In Texarkana, for example, a 911 text message would be sent to Bowie County, and a dispatcher can respond via text and ask the sender about the emergency.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) updates and maintains the list of dispatcher centers (PSAPs) text 911 nationwide.
